Redlands Fire Department - Extrication - 1-14-13

A 30-year-old Redlands man was transported to the hospital with major injuries following a head-on collision at Wabash Avenue and Sylvan Boulevard Monday evening. Firefighters used equipment, including the Jaws of Life to extricate the driver from his vehicle following the collision at about 7:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14. The driver of the other vehicle sustained only minor injuries and was treated and released at the scene. The injured driver had been traveling south on Wabash in a 2006 Saturn 4-door  sedan when he crossed the center line into the opposing traffic lane and collided head-on with an SUV traveling north on Wabash. The collision trapped the driver of the Saturn and caused major injuries. It took firefighters approximately 30 minutes to free him from the wreckage. He was then transported to a local hospital. Redlands Police are investigating the collision. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Redlands Police Dispatch at (909) 798-7681. Anonymous tips can be provided by texting 274637 using the keyword “REDTIP.” Certain non-emergency crimes may also be reported online using the Redlands Police Department’s CopLogic reporting system at http://ci.redlands.ca.us/police/coplogic/start-report.html.
