Redlands - Brush Fire - 9-8-12 - Opal Incident

Press Enterprise - A small brush fire north of Mentone is keeping San Bernardino County firefighters busy, though it is not expected to advance. Fire officials said the 12-acre fire’s forward progress was halted about 6 p.m., about 90 minutes after firefighters responded to the blaze on Saturday, Sept. 8. Aircraft had been called off the scene, though a helicopter was expected to remain ready to douse the fire until it was fully contained. Smoke could be seen billowing north of Redlands Municipal Airport as fire officials contended with the fire, situated in a remote area between Opal Avenue and Greenspot Road, along the Santa Ana River bed.

Redlands - Structure - 9-1-12

At approximately 1:09 pm on September 1st,  Redlands Firefighters responded to a residential structure fire in the 1000 block of E. Pennsylvania Ave. Upon arrival at the scene they found smoke coming from the attic vents and heavy smoke conditions inside the home. Firefighter’s encountered a large amount of debris and storage inside the structure which made access to the home and fire area difficult. The resident was not home at the time of the fire and there were no injuries to civilians or firefighters. While searching the residence, in heavy smoke conditions, firefighters located and rescued the resident’s dog. The dog is in good condition and being cared for by neighbors.  It took 19 firefighters about 9 minutes to extinguish the fire. Firefighters remained on scene another hour to investigate the cause and ensure there was no fire in the attic or walls. Redlands Fire Investigators determined the fire was caused by a stove burner which was left on.  There was heat and smoke damage throughout the interior of the home. The loss to the structure and contents is estimated at $40,000.
