Someone working with a soldering torch caused a house fire early Wednesday on Clay Street in Redlands, according to the Fire Department. The fire was reported about 5 a.m. Aug. 15 in the 1000 block of Clay Street, Battalion Chief Scott MacDonald said in a news release. Firefighters found a single-story home with the attic on fire, fully involved in flames, MacDonald said. All the occupants of the home escaped uninjured before fire crews arrived. They extinguished the fire in 35 minutes. Damage to the building and its contents were estimated at $150,000. "The cause of the fire was determined to be sweating copper plumbing pipes with a soldering torch," MacDonald said. More photos can be seen here in the gallery section of FireWXPhoto.com.
